think Rishi

I Think Rishi Was Right

7 June 2024/0 Comments/in General, Latest News /by admin@staiano
I watched the debate between Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak the other night.
They were asked if they would have private medical treatment.

Rishi Sunak said that he would, but Keir Starmer said that he wouldn’t because his family were ingrained in the NHS and he was very committed to it.

Like many of the things they were saying I feel that this was rhetoric.

Having worked in the NHS for 18 years, I’ve come to realise that it is not a normal business model.

You are not supporting the NHS by using it.
In fact, quite the opposite.
The NHS has a fixed amount of money and it has to make best use of that money and so the fewer people that use it, the better.
It is not the case that they get paid for each procedure that they do.
…and so they are not looking to increase the amount of work that they do.

I feel that if you want to support the NHS, then you will use it as little as possible.

Most of the procedures that I perform involve removing troublesome lesions like moles, cysts and lumps and bumps and I encourage patients not to bother their GP or the NHS with this as it is something that we can sort out.

I will let your GP know in terms of your medical record, but I do not think you need to take up a GP appointment.

Obviously there is a cost involved and not everyone will be able to afford this and the NHS is there to treat serious problems and it is there for all of us.

However it can’t cope with everything.
…and there are many things that it simply cannot cope with and I don’t think you are being helpful by saying that you would not consider private treatment.
I believe that if you are able to have private treatment, then you are actually helping the NHS by taking the pressure off it as the last thing it needs is more people using the NHS because they think they are supporting it.
I think we need to focus more on what the NHS is there for and let it do that effectively.
Because at the moment we are asking a lot more of it then it can deal with.
If you want to support the NHS, think about how you can take the pressure off it rather than using it more often.
You are not doing it any favours and I don’t think you are being particularly patriotic by flatly refusing to use the private sector.
In fact I think the opposite.
